Gall Bladder 31 Wind Market & GB32 – Gall Baller 32 Central River

Gall Bladder 31 and 32 are both targets of a lower mawashigeri (round-house kick) among other techniques. These points are located on the lateral aspect of the thigh, roughly between mid-thigh and the knee.

Striking these points at a downward 45˚ angle with a ‘heavy’ penetrating attack can cause leg muscle weakness, leg pain or even temporary paralysis or numbness of the lower extremities (also known as a ‘dead leg’).

Strikes to this area will cause a great deal of pain in most people, due to the points close proximity to major nerve branches and arteries. Therefore it is important to avoid striking or kicking to this area during kumite.

An interesting note: In accupuncture GB31 is an empirical point to treat itching.
